a dog-eared town

I woke up this morning to find out that Robert Jordan has passed away. I believe the notice is on Dragonmount, but the site is unresponsive, probably everyone else trying to go there too. He had a terribly nasty disease, cardiac amyloidosis that he was fighting every day.

I met him at a book signing here in Milford. Well, I don’t believe meet is really the word at these sorts of things. He was a very engaging man who took the time to make me feel that he was just talking to me when I got his autograph. His death is a sad thing, but that’s life.

A lot of people didn’t like his later books but I always enjoyed them. I believe he set up a universe that was equally as rich as Tolkien’s and was glad that I knew about it. It really is a sad day for his family. I hope they are able to get through it ok. There were a lot of people that enjoyed his books and he was well liked by his fans and I hope his family knows it. Robert Jordan really touched people with his writing and really, what else can you hope for as a writer?
