What A Surprise

Linc Chafee, the “moderate” republican is endorsing Barack Obama.

Lincoln Chafee, a former Republican Senator from Rhode Island, said today that he is changing party registration – at least on primary day next month – and endorsing Senator Barack Obama’s presidential candidacy.

“I believe Senator Obama is the best candidate to restore American credibility, to restore our confidence to be moral and to bring people together to solve the complex issues such as the economy, the environment and global stability,” Mr. Chafee said in a conference call with reporters today.

I hope he doesn’t wonder why most republican activists in Rhode Island called him a rino. It’s not like he, along with John McCain stabbed his party in the back at every opportunity. But even worse than not getting respect from his party is his masochistic endorsement of Obama.

In one regard, it is a curious choice. Two years ago, Senator John McCain came to Rhode Island to campaign on Mr. Chafee’s behalf. Mr. Obama campaigned for his opponent, Sheldon Whitehouse, who ultimately prevailed.

So you endorse the guy that helped get you out of office and don’t endorse the guy that tried to help keep you elected. I don’t get it. What I don’t get even more is why does Linc pretend at being a republican. He’s proven through his words and deeds that he isn’t a republican. Why bother with the charade?

Oh well, it doesn’t matter. I’m sure he’s being paid a handsome sum of cash doing nothing in particular like most former congresscritters.
